Shabana Azmi says Tabu teases that her Rocky Aur Rani kiss with Dharmendra has ‘shaken’ industry: ‘Actors your age saying they’ll do film if there’s kiss in it’

In a year dominated by might blockbusters, a kiss trended a lot. Veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi’s lip lock from Karan Johar’s 2023 hit Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani continues to be a talking point.

The peck between Dharmendra and Shabana had taken the audience by surprise and emerged as one of its highlights. During the red carpet of Filmfare awards, at which she won the best supporting actor, Shabana Azmi spoke about the kissing scene and said how even her actor niece Tabu keeps pulling her leg for it.

“Tabu joh meri niece hai, itni shaitaan hai. Woh kehti hai aapne hila ke rakh diya industry ko. Ab sab aapki age ki ladkiya keh rahi hai ke kiss hogi toh hum karege! (My niece Tabu is so naughty, she teases me that I have shaken the industry, now every actresses my age would want to do a film if there is a kissing scene in it),” reported Zoom.

On Koffee with Karan, the filmmaker had opened up about the sequence and confessed that he was initially “awkward” to narrate the scene to Dharmendra., but the veteran’s reaction completely took him by surprise.

“I took a beat and he said ‘Toh problem kya hai?’ (so what is the problem?). He said ‘Maine bahut kia hai’ (I have done this many times). I said acha theek hai.” Karan added that the two veteran actors were great performers here and “everybody else around it had made a bigger deal out of it than them because they are true artists.”

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani starred Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, who bagged the best actor award at the ceremony.
