Sara Ali Khan’s Ae Watan Mere Watan gets a release date, to stream on Prime Video a week after Netflix’s Murder Mubarak

Sara Ali Khan will star in the period film Ae Watan Mere Watan, which will also have a cameo appearance by Emraan Hashmi.

Actor Sara Ali Khan‘s upcoming period drama film, Ae Watan Mere Watan, is all set to release on Prime Video in March. The OTT giant announced that the film, set during the pre-Independence era, will start streaming on the service from March 21. Incidentally, Sara will also star in the murder mystery film Murder Mubarak, due for release on rival Netflix just a week earlier, on March 15.

The announcement was made with a teaser, in which Sara’s character, Usha, is urging listeners on clandestine radio to revolt against the British. The movie is said to be inspired by the real-life freedom fighter Usha Mehta. Directed by Kannan Iyer, Ae Watan Mere Watan will be dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The film is backed by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra’s Dharmatic Entertainment.

The film is co-written by Kannan and Darab Farooqui. Sara shared the teaser on her Instagram account, and wrote, “Desh ki kahaani, Usha ki zubaani World Radio Day par!#AeWatanMereWatanOnPrime, Mar 21 only on @primevideoin”.

The makers announced the release date on Tuesday, which also happens to be World Radio Day.

Co-producer Apurva Mehta added, “Ae Watan Mere Watan is a riveting tale of courage, sacrifice, resilience and unwavering devotion to one’s country and one that we’re honoured to bring to audiences worldwide. The film marks an exciting chapter in our partnership with Prime Video and is another step in our goal to back stories that pay tribute to this country’s rich history and cultural tapestry. It has been incredibly exciting to see Sara get into the skin of her character and her performance is a testament to her prowess as an actor and flourish under the skillful guidance of Kannan Iyer. We’re looking forward to finally premiering this movie to our audience and we’re sure it will awe and inspire them.”

Ae Watan Mere Watan will also see a pivotal cameo by actor Emraan Hashmi. Recently, Sara’s mother, Amrita Singh, was seen on the sets of the film, which also stars Sachin Khedekar, Abhay Verma, Sparsh Shrivastav, Alexx O’ Nell and Anand Tiwari in pivotal roles.
