Sanya Malhotra answers if makers of Jawan will release ‘extended version’: ‘I hope they make Jawan 2…’

In an interview, Sanya Malhotra opened up about fans' demand for an extended cut of Jawan and her hopes of a sequel to the Shah Rukh Khan movie.

It’s not been even a week since Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan hit cinema halls, and fans are already demanding a sequel. The Atlee-directed drama has been ruling the box office, breaking record after record. While it’s one of the longest films in recent times, people have not been complaining about the length, and rather wanting the extended version, showcasing in-depth back stories of the other characters.

Sanya Malhotra, who plays one of the ‘soldiers’ in SRK’s girl army, also addressed the same, sharing that she too is part of the group. In a chat with Pinkvilla, the actor mentioned how several people asked her about the makers of the film releasing an ‘extended version’. She added, “And that shows how much people love the film and are invested in all of us.”

The Dangal actor added that this is the beauty of Jawan where people want to know more about the characters. Sanya said that fans are rewatching the film because it leaves them with an ample dose of dopamine and happiness. She also wished for a sequel to the film as she said, “I would, as an audience, like to see an extended version as well and I hope they come up with it. If not that, I hope they make Jawan 2 and cast me in it.”

The mass actioner had Sanya Malhotra playing a doctor accused of multiple child deaths — resembling the 2017 Gorakhpur case of Dr Kafeel Khan. Since the release of Jawan, the internet was quick to notice parallels between Kafeel Khan and Sanya Malhotra’s Dr Eeram in the film.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, when asked if Kafeel’s story was ever a point of reference for the Atlee directorial, Sanya said it wasn’t. “No, not that I know of. I used to completely surrender on set, to Atlee sir’s vision. But I got to know that he tweeted about it. All I can say is I feel very fortunate to have played a character like Eeram. It is a very important message that we are trying to give out.”

A readers would know, paediatrician Kafeel Khan of Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College and Hospital was arrested after 63 children and 18 adults lost their lives after the hospital allegedly ran out of liquid oxygen. The state government later dismissed Khan from services.

Shah Rukh Khan releases new Jawan teaser

On Wednesday, Shah Rukh Khan dropped a new teaser of Jawan, showcasing his power packed avatar of Vikram Rathore. As the video showcased him packing punches and kicks, the voiceover by SRK stressed on how he’s the ‘baap’ in the film. King Khan captioned the post, “Beta toh Beta….. Baap Re Baap!! Ab Na Rukna Chalne De.”

Jawan also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupati, Deepika Padukone and Priyamani, among others. It has already crossed Rs 300 crore in India, while globally it’s set to cross Rs 600 crore soon.
