Actor Sameera Reddy stepped away from the limelight after she got married to Akshai Varde in 2014, and gave birth to her son, Hans, in 2015. Recently, she shared why she ‘disappeared’ from showbiz immediately after tying the knot. Sameera also spoke about returning to acting after a long hiatus.

During an interaction with Janice Sequeira, Sameera revealed that she faced a lot of issues during her first pregnancy, and after giving birth to her son, she suffered from “postpartum blues”. She said, “I got pregnant within a couple of months of getting married and within a year I had Hans. I had postpartum blues, and I also had put on a lot of weight.” The Race actor recalled how “unforgiving” the people around her were, and even her vegetable seller made snarky comments about her body weight.

“The bhaji vala would say, ‘Didi kya ho gaya aapko? Didi aap ho?‘ (What has happened to you? Is it really you?) I am amazed how Indians have this beautiful knack of saying, ‘Aap badal gaye ho na madam?’ (You have changed madam),” shared Sameera.

The actor also said that to avoid getting clicked by the paparazzi, she wouldn’t leave her house. She said, “I was caught in my own demons of how people were perceiving me. I was so scared of being photographed by a paparazzo that I would not go out.” However, the actor is not affected by what people say about her anymore.

Now that her children have grown up, Sameera is considering returning to showbiz and is reading scripts. She said, “I value my time with my children and I am a hands-on mother. I have been reading scripts but you got to leave for weeks and I don’t have the guts to do that because they (my children) are my life right now. I am not prepared to leave them for long moments of time and that is the biggest reason I have not done it.”

Sameera also feels now is the best time for her to return to acting, as better roles are being written for women. She described the characters she’d play in films as all ‘t**s and a**’. “I know the time is now, I know there are great roles and I know I am ready for it. I am ready to do any kind of role, maybe I will do it next year. OTT has given so many meaty and strong roles. Vidya Balan and Kangana Ranaut have changed the game. I am just trying to prepare myself,” the actor concluded.

Sameera is at the top of her social media game and often shares inspiring posts on her Instagram account for new mothers.
