Salman Khan made his debut in the movies with a little known film called Biwi Ho Toh Aisi in a supporting role. Later, the actor stepped into stardom with his first film as a leading man in Maine Pyar Kiya but in the actor’s words, he found his work in his debut feature to be ’embarrassing’.

In a 2006 chat with Prabhu Chawla for Seedhi Baat, Salman said that he initially wanted to be a director in the movies but since he was quite young, no one was willing to take him on as a director. He didn’t think he had the potential to be a leading man because “I didn’t have the height, the body or the personality” for that.

Salman recalled the time when he first watched his work in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi which starred Rekha, Bindu and Farooq Sheikh and realised he was “so bad.” “I signed the film after listening to the script and I really liked it but when I saw my work in it, I prayed… I think I must be the first person on planet earth to pray that no one watches their first film because I was so bad in the film, I was embarrassed,” he said.

In 2018, Salman had revealed how he was signed for the film by director JK Bihari. During the launch of Dus Ka Dum, Salman shared, “Bihariji told me that he had approached numerous actors, big and small for the role but all of them refused it, as they did not like something or the other about the part. He was completely frustrated and one fine day, while he was at his garage turned office, he told his team that the next idiot to walk in would be signed for the film. And that idiot was me.”

Salman shared that he had prepared for the audition and had assumed that it was that performance that got him the part. “I had gotten ready for the audition so nicely. I knew he used to sit at the garage beside the building so I entered in full speed and style. I thought I was signed because of that, not knowing what Bihariji had in his mind,” he recalled.
