Rekha shared a treasure trove of anecdotes during her appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show. Among them, she opened up about her experience working with Amitabh Bachchan in the 1979 film Suhaag. Rekha recounted how Big B’s presence in the movie motivated her to perfect the dandiya steps for the song “O Sheronwali”.

Speaking about the iconic dance sequence, a fan asked Rekha, “In the movie Suhaag, you played dandiya so well. Even though you are a South Indian, you played the Gujarati dandiya so well. It didn’t feel like you were not a Gujarati. How did you manage it?”

Rekha did not directly mention Amitabh Bachchan’s name but shared her admiration for the actor. She responded. “Ye sochiye ke jinke saath main Dhandiya khel rahi thi, wo kya shaks hai. Acha nahi khelungi toh kya karungi? Dandiya aati ya na aati ho, saamna aise aadmi-shaqs aa jaata hai toh khud hi har angh angh theerakhne lagta hai. (Think about this, the personality of the person I was performing dandiya with. I obviously had to do a good job. Even I didn’t know how to play dandiya, when he stood in front of me, I would just start dancing),” she said.

Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan have shared the screen in several iconic films, including Do Anjaane (1976), Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978), Mr. Natwarlal (1979), and Alaap (1977). Though Amitabh continued to work in films and television, Rekha has largely stepped back from the limelight, making only occasional appearances in films.

During the show, Rekha also hinted that she is an ardent follower of Amitabh Bachchan’s long-running quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). In one lighthearted moment, Kapil mimicked Bachchan and shared an amusing anecdote from his own experience on the quiz show. Kapil recounted, “While we were playing KBC with Bachchan sahab, my mother was seated in the front row. He asked her, ‘Devi ji, kya kha ke paida kiya (What did you eat before giving birth to him)?’”

Before Kapil could finish, Rekha interjected with a playful revelation, “Daal-roti,” and Kapil confirmed that this was indeed his mother’s response. Rekha then added with a laugh, “Mujhse pucheye na, ek ek dialogue yaad hai (Ask me anything; I remember every dialogue),” subtly implying that she watches KBC regularly.
