During his recent press meet in Bengaluru, Ranbir Kapoor defended Animal's long run time. The actor also spoke about maintaining a balance of violence in the film that narrates a tale about father-son relationship.

Ranbir Kapoor is waiting with bated breath for the release of his upcoming film Animal, which is already touted to be the biggest film of his career. Despite getting an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) and having a long run time of 3 hours 21 minutes, the film has managed to rake in Rs 6.40 crore in advance booking. During his recent press meet in Bengaluru, Ranbir defended the film’s run time and ensured that it is going to be an entertaining ride. The actor also spoke about maintaining a balance of violence in the film that narrates a tale about father-son relationship.
Speaking about the run time of Animal, Ranbir said, “We are not releasing a film this long because we are arrogant about it. We felt that the story required this amount of time to reach the audience in the best way possible.”
The actor revealed that the original cut of the film was even longer. He said, “And actually, all of us have seen the cut of this film which was 3 hours, 49 minutes, and that also held. Wo bhi entertaining tha. But Sandeep has worked very hard to bring the length down. Because you cannot stretch it that much also. But hope that the audience doesn’t get panicked by the length. Just come and experience cinema at its best.”
Talking about maintaining a balance of violence in Animal, Ranbir said, “I think the balance is what the audience is going to decide. As filmmakers and as artists, we are conscious of making an entertaining cinematic product. But on the first of December, I think we will be able to really understand what is balance of violence is. Having said that, violence is not just dishoom dishoom, it is also the violence of the mind. The thoughts can be very violent and I think the thoughts in the film are way more violent than the actions.”
Apart from receiving an ‘A’ rating from CBFC, Animal has been rated 18 (suitable for adults only) by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC). The film’s description on the site delves into intense violence, including instances of sexual and domestic violence, and reveals mild spoilers.
