Rakesh Roshan was scared his security guards would kill him after he was shot by gangsters: ‘Voh peeche se na mujhe maar de’
Rakesh Roshan shared that he felt claustrophobic when he was assigned two armed guards after the shooting in the year 2000.

Rakesh Roshan went through a gamut of emotions when within a week of Kaho Naa Pyar Hai’s release, he was shot at in the middle of the street in Mumbai. Rakesh pulled through as he drove himself to the police station while he was still bleeding and was later taken to a hospital. In a new interview, Rakesh said that this tragic incident was a “bad dream” and recalled that he was assigned two armed security guards after the incident. Rakesh said that the presence of two men with guns made him more nervous as he was ‘scared’ that they would shoot him.
Talking to ANI, Rakesh said, “No matter how much security personnel is around you, you are still an open target. If someone wants to harm you, security personnel won’t be able to do anything.” Rakesh recalled that after the shooting incident in 2000, he was assigned two armed security guards. “After this incident, I was assigned two armed security guards, I would sit in the front in the car and they would sit in the back, that would make me more scared,” he said and added, “Voh do peeche baithe hain bandook ke sath. Kabhi kuch ho jaye voh peeche se na mujhe maar de (Those two are sitting behind me with a gun. In case something happens, they can kill me.)”
Rakesh Roshan said that the presence of guards made him feel “very claustrophobic.” He said, “When I would go for a walk on the beach, those two security guards would be with me. I was like ‘what is happening?’ So I requested them to take away my security cover. I am okay just as I am. We will see what happens.”

In a previous chat with Zoom, Rakesh Roshan said that he was with his driver when the shots were fired and the man was shivering in fear. “I asked him to catch his breath. Until then, I didn’t even realise that I was shot. Then we headed to the police station because I suspected that the shooters might be nearby, and they might get caught,” he recalled. Rakesh said that he could feel some blood oozing out of his shirt and tried to stop it with a handkerchief as he reached the police station. The cops then took him to the hospital.
Rakesh said that he called his father-in-law J Om Prakash from the hospital, and his next call was to son Hrithik Roshan. He shared, “I called Hrithik. He was at Yash Chopra’s house. I told him, ‘Duggu, don’t leave the house. Your grandfather will call you, you come with him.'” Rakesh recalled that he tried to stay calm after the surgery because if he panicked, the family would worry even more. He shared, “Even after I got discharged, I used to get calls from there (the underworld). And I would speak to them. Sometimes I spoke to them in such a way that my friends, who were sitting with me, would ask, ‘Aren’t you scared?’ I said, ‘No.'”
