Actor Rahul Dev wasn’t the least bit surprised by the remarkable global box office success of Shah Rukh Khan’s film, Jawan. His association with SRK goes back to their school days at Delhi’s St. Columba’s School, where Rahul had the privilege of observing Shah Rukh’s brilliance and determination. During an interview with Connect FM Canada, Rahul reminisced about their school days and shared how SRK excelled in multiple fields in school.

Rahul shared insights into Shah Rukh’s achievements at St. Columba’s and said, “I know SRK since school. He used to be the wicket keeper and I was the fast bowler. He was my senior and that year he won the Sword Award also. I would compare the history and legacy of St. Columba’s to that of Eton in England. Our school had a very rich tradition. However, it no longer is the institution it used to be. But at that time Sword of Honour was given to a student who wasn’t just brilliant at academics but also would be inspirational for all his peers. Shah Rukh was that kind of a person in school. He was exceptional. I don’t find it surprising that SRK has become a superstar. There will be no Shah Rukh Khan in the next 1000 years. He took part in various activities in school. He was first in football, hockey, cricket and every game.”

Speaking on Jawan’s massive success, Rahul said, “I am not surprised by his massive comeback. It was long overdue. I would say, ‘Khan sahab ye bahut pehle kar lena chahiye tha.’ We are proud of him. He is part of the Columban heritage. I feel god gave him every talent and set him out to conquer the world.”

Rahul Dev wasn’t the only Columban schoolmate with insights into Shah Rukh’s aspirations. In an earlier interview with CurlyTales, Euphoria singer Palash Sen recalled stories about Shah Rukh, and said that the actor was always sure that he was going to become a star, even as a schoolkid. “Shah Rukh was my schoolmate, and my mate at all the co-curricular activities. We were into sports, debating, quizzing, everything, we were always together. The one thing he couldn’t do was sing, that I did for him. There was a musical that we did, he had a role in it but he could not sing. I was standing in the wings and I was singing for him. He was one of my closest friends when we were in school “He knew, I didn’t know. He knew he wanted to be an actor, and be huge. He was very sure,” he said.

As of October 20, Jawan, had achieved a staggering global box office collection of Rs 1143.59 crore, setting new records in the industry. Following this monumental success, Shah Rukh is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film, Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which is set to hit theatres on December 22.
