R Madhavan named new president of FTII, Anurag Thakur congratulates the actor
R Madhavan has been nominated as the President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII).

Actor R Madhavan has been nominated as the President of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and Chairman of the governing council. Madhavan’s film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect recently won the National Award for the Best Feature Film. Madhavan reacted to the news and told indianexpress.com, “Am on a flight and I just heard (with two folded hands emoticons).”
Union Minister Anurag Thakur took to social media and announced the news.

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur was the last president of FTII. Actor Anupam Kher also served as the president for one year. Madhavan, 53, is an actor, writer, director, and producer. In 1988, Madhavan received a scholarship from Rajaram College and represented India as a Cultural Ambassador in Stettler, Alberta, Canada.

Madhavan rose to fame in Tamil cinema with Mani Ratnam’s Alai Payuthey in 2000. He has received four Filmfare Awards South and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Although he has worked in various Bollywood films, he is best known for his role in his debut film Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, in which he played the lead alongside Dia Mirza.
His film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is a biopic of Indian rocket scientist Nambi Narayanan. It was a modest success and won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
