Although Vishal Bhardwaj has gifted us several cinematic gems, Kaminey (2009) enjoys a solid fan base, thanks to its many remarkable aspects, particularly writing, direction and performances. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles, this action film recently turned 16, attracting a slew of social media posts from elated fans expressing their admiration for the movie. Among those who shared heartfelt notes about Kaminey was actor Priyanka Chopra, who penned a long post on Instagram, recalling her experience working on the film, playing the role of Sweety Bhope. Much to the delight of fans, Vishal also chimed in soon after, turning it into a warm virtual reunion of two longtime friends who continue to harbour nothing but love for each other.

Recalling receiving a call from Vishal while she was filming for director Tarun Mansukhani’s Dostana (2009) in Miami, Florida, Priyanka shared that it came as a shock to her because she never thought he would contact a “commercial actor” like her, despite her longstanding desire to work with him.”He said he’d like to come see me, and he did. To Miami. I remember him telling me the story, and I said, ‘Well, she has approximately eight scenes.’ And he said, ‘With us working on it, it will end up being so much more. Trust me.’ And I did.”

She continued, “He promised he would make something incredible for me after this in appreciation for doing the part. But honestly, I was just greedy to work with him. A few years later, we did 7 Khoon Maaf.” Describing Kaminey as a “turning point in my career,” Priyanka went on to heap praise on Vishal and her co-stars. “I learned so much from the master Vishal Bhardwaj on how to research, prepare and then surrender to the part. Shahid Kapoor was sensational in his double role. Amol Gupte was unforgettable. I also met our producer for the movie, Mubina Rattonsey, for the first time on this set.”

Responding to Priyanka’s post, Vishal took to his Instagram stories and recalled penning a poem for her on a day she was in a bad mood. He also described her as one of his favourite collaborators. “Priyanka Chopra, ask me how much I miss those days. You have been one of the finest collaborations of my career. Remember one day, when you got angry, I handwrote a poem on a napkin and sent it to manaao you.. “Doosri jangeaadam ko khatam huye bhi beetein saal… Ab bhi kuch Japani afsar chhipein mile hain duty par… Tum se kab ab milna hoga… Kya ab bhi naraaz ho tum?” In response, the actor wrote, “Haha apse kaun naraaz reh sakta hai Vishal Bhardwaj? Aaiye milne (Who can be angry with you? Come and meet me sometime).”

Many industry insiders also assembled in the comment section of Priyanka’s post, expressing their admiration for the work. While Bhumi Pednekar shared her love for the movie through an emoji, Dostana director Tarun Mansukhani noted his playful envy at seeing the actor exhilarated at the news of collaborating with another filmmaker. He wrote, “I remember the day! (Confession – I was very jealous to see my actor being so excited to work with another director!!!)” Actor-singer Manasi Parekh also shared her love for Priyanka, mentioning, “What an artiste! What fire! Priyanka Hindi films miss you. The audiences miss you.”
