Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is waiting for the release of his next Bollywood film, OMG 2, has urged the audience to not pay heed to what is being said about the movie. The social comedy-dram is a sequel to the much-celebrated 2012 film OMG-Oh My God, starring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar.

After the trailer of OMG 2 was released, reports about the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reviewing its scenes and dialogues surfaced online. India Today quoted a source as saying that the film certification board “does not want to repeat the backlash that Adipurush faced over its dialogues”. However, the makers of the film have not commented on this.

Recently, when the Mirzapur star was asked about OMG 2, he refused to divulge many details. But through Zoom TV, he urged the audience to “not believe what is being written about” his film. He said, “Log bahot kuch bol rahen hain. Lekin sachchai samne aayegi jab film release hogi (People are saying all sorts of things, but the truth will be out when the film releases).”

Written and directed by Amit Rai, OMG 2 has Akshay Kumar essaying the role of Lord Shiva. Pankaj Tripathi plays the role of his staunch believer. The film will release in theatres on August 11 and have a box office face-off with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2.

Pankaj Tripathi has come a long way in his career. From being an NSD graduate, he started by playing supporting roles in the movies. He finally found recognition through OTT platforms as he appeared as Kaleen Bhaiyaa in the Prime Video series Mirzapur.

Speaking about how things have changed in Hindi cinema for the new faces, the actor told The Indian Express, “Earlier, new faces used to come in hardly one or two scenes. The industry has opened up in that way. The struggle was more when we started off in 2004. Earlier, everything used to happen in a cocoon- it was difficult to find out where films were being made, where new actors could find opportunities, etc. The kind of roles that we could get during those days was of bhaajiwala (vegetable vendor) and delivery boy.”
