National Award-winning art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai was laid to rest at ND Studio in Karjat, Maharashtra on Friday evening. Aamir Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Manoj Joshi attended the funeral held at the art director’s studio. Several Marathi film celebrities and politicians also thronged the studio to attend the funeral.
Nitin Desai’s family, including his children — son Siddhant and daughter Mansi, were seen bidding an emotional farewell.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar paid their last respects to Desai at JJ Hospital in Mumbai on Friday morning.
Nitin Desai was found dead at ND Studio on Wednesday morning. Police had said it was a suspected case of suicide due to the debt he was facing. He was 57.
The postmortem reports of the Bollywood art director was conducted by a team of four doctors on Wednesday. Raigad Police said, “Postmortem of art director Nitin Desai has been conducted by a team of four doctors. As per preliminary findings, the cause of death is due to hanging. Further investigation is underway.”
Nitin Chandrakant Desai had collaborated with filmmakers like Ashutosh Gowariker, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He was famed for his work in movies like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (2000), Lagaan (2002), and Devdas (2003), Jodhaa Akbar (2008) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015).
Desai is survived by his wife Naina, daughter Mansi and son Siddhant.
