Mukesh Khanna says Zeenat Aman ‘has lived according to Western civilisation’ as he criticises her stance on live-in relationships: ‘Think before speaking’
Zeenat Aman had 'strongly' recommended that a couple live together before getting married, as it would help them understand each other better. Mukesh Khanna has now criticised her statement.
Days after Mumtaz and Saira Banu disagreed with Zeenat Aman, Mukesh Khanna has now expressed his views. (Photo: Mukesh Khanna, Zeenat Aman/Instagram)Veteran actor Zeenat Aman had said kuch toh log kahege (people will say something) when she advised couples to opt for live-in relationships before tying the knot– and a lot of people did speak up. The actor, who has attained celebrityhood even on Instagram, received some criticism by her colleagues, including Saira Banu and Mumtaz, for her comments and now actor Mukesh Khanna has also joined the bandwagon.
The Shaktiman actor criticised Zeenat’s comments and said live-in relations are not “recognised” in the Indian culture or “history”. Khanna said these concepts can be traced back to “Western civilisation”, according to which Zeenat Aman has lived her life “from the very beginning,” the 65-year-old claimed.
“Live-in relationships are not recognised in our culture and history. It has come from Western civilisation. Zeenat Aman is speaking about the matter, and she has lived her life according to Western civilisation from the very beginning. This is not acceptable in Indian culture,” he said in an interview with Dainik Jagran.
“Just imagine if a boy and a girl live with each other like husband and wife before marriage, and they do not get along well, then imagine what will happen to both of them. Those who are saying such things should think before speaking,” he added.

In her Instagram post last week, Zeenat had “strongly” recommended that a couple live together before getting married, as it would help them to understand each other better. She said she had advised the same to her sons, who were or had been in live-in relationships.
“I’m aware that Indian society is a little uptight about ‘living in sin’ but then again, society is uptight about so many things! Log kya kahenge? (What will people say?),” she wrote.
Zeenat Aman married actor Mazhar Khan in 1985, with whom she had two sons. The couple remained together until his demise in 1998.
