‘It is ridiculous to ask Akshay Kumar to prove his stardom even after 33 years,’ says Khel Khel Mein director Mudassar Aziz

Even though Mudassar Aziz directed Khel Khel Mein received positive reviews, the film has not been doing very well commercially. Starring an ensemble cast including Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Pragya Jaiswal, and Aditya Seal in important roles, Khel Khel Main has been adapted from the Italian film Perfect Strangers. While this comedy-drama is yet another offering from the actor to his audience, the actor has faced scrutiny over his recent flops, namely, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sarfira.

Recently, in a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Khel Khel Mein director Mudassar Aziz called these judgments baseless and slammed the people for judging Akshay Kumar, who gave 33 years of his life to entertain them. He also praised Akshay for taking this criticism with a smile.

When asked if Akshay ever looked stressed about Khel Khel Mein’s success after receiving flak over his recent flops, Mudassar shared, “I cannot answer on his behalf, but as per my observation this chatter is quite baseless. All those who comment on these things, I don’t think they hold the position to do so. A man has been in this industry for 33 years and has been responsible for many people’s happy memories. He had no family member in the industry, he came to Mumbai from Delhi, worked as a waiter, assisted a photographer, or did something else. It is ridiculous for him to be asked to prove his stardom to us even after 33 years.”

Mudassar also praised Akshay and added, “Akshay is very intelligent. He reflects on everything, and the level of commitment he has to anything prompts him to make very few wrong decisions. He just smiles upon all the judgments he gets, that’s the attitude I see in him. I want to be him when I am 57. I was discussing some of my troubled times with him and my eyes welled up. I have not even seen 10 per cent success of what Akshay Kumar has seen. He is a cult in himself, so I find it weird that anybody should turn around and tell him to justify his stardom.”

“If a few page views allow people to critique him, then 33 years of experience allows Akshay Kumar to do the kind of work he wants to do. That’s all I would want to say,” Mudassar concluded.

At the box office, Khel Khel Mein has so far collected close to Rs 10 crore in three days.
