MS Dhoni tells Mandira Bedi the most ‘difficult’ thing about acting; reveals why daughter Ziva loves him: ‘Papa is money’
For Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has acted in several TV commercials, the most difficult thing about being an actor is "learning your lines".

Last year, former Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his acting debut with the mythological sci-fi series Atharva. While there has been no word about its release yet, we got our hands on a video where the popular cricketer expressed his views on acting. For Dhoni, who has acted in several TV commercials, the most difficult thing about being an actor is “learning your lines”. In his own admission, Dhoni is a director’s actor and if his performance is not good, it is not his fault but it is the fault of the director.
Dhoni, while speaking to Mandira Bedi for Mastercard Priceless Moments, gave the credit for his performance in the Mastercard campaign along with Pankaj Kapur, to his director. On being praised by Bedi for his acting, the cricketer said, “We had a very good director. Agar mera performance acha nahi tha, matlab director acha nahi tha. (if my performance was not good, it was because my director was not good). It is not my headache.”
Dhoni added that he is a director’s actor. He said, “It’s very difficult to remember your lines. I always say I’ll do what the director will say, if it’s not good, it is the problem of the director and not me.”
The cricketer also spoke about the experience of becoming a father to daughter Ziva. Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Dhoni, were blessed Ziva in February 2015, when the cricketer was away in Australia for ICC World Cup 2015.
Dhoni shared, “The first time I picked her (Ziva) up, she must have been two and a half months old, and she made a lot of noise. That was the first time she was seeing me. I don’t know whether she saw me as they say that kids who are one or two months old, can’t see. But for full 5 minutes, she was giggling and making noises and Sakshi was like, ‘She has never done it. I don’t know why is she doing it.”
The former Indian skipper said that the feeling of becoming a parent cannot be described in words. He added that from the day Ziva is born till now, she has been quite inquisitive, and keeps asking questions. He also shared that now when someone asks her why she loves her father, she replies, “Because, papa is money”.
Dhoni recently turned a film producer. He has produced a light-hearted Tamil family drama titled LGM aka Let’s Get Married.
