Akshay Kumar's film Mission Raniganj is struggling to maintain its grip at the ticket counters. While it was expected to pick up pace over the weekend after a slow start on Friday, it saw no growth. And, now during its first week, the film is registering barely any footfall in the cinema halls. On its first Monday, Mission Raniganj witnessed a steep fall in its box office collection. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 1.25 crore on its fourth day in the theatres, bringing the total collection to Rs 13.85 crore. It had an overall occupancy of 9.23% in the Hindi-speaking market. The film began its run in the theatres with an earning of Rs 2.8 crore, which was followed by Rs 4.80 crore on Saturday and Rs 5 crore on Sunday. The film was released alongside Karan Boolani's Thank You For Coming, which also had a similar fate. The film could only earn Rs 0.35 cr on Monday, which brought its four day collection to Rs 4.77 crore. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan which is already a month old now, did a business of Rs 1.05 crore on Monday. Akshay Kumar, once popular for his back-to-back box office hits, has been having a tough time bringing people to the theatres to watch his films. Though his last release, OMG 2 was loved by the audience for its content, it saw a scant footfall in comparison to the actor's hit films. His other release of the year, Selfiee, was rejected by cinephiles. In 2022, the actor came out with four films (Ram Setu, Raksha Bandhan, Samrat Prithviraj, Bachchhan Paandey), all of which tanked upon release. Now, if the scenario will reverse for the actor in 2024, when he comes out with the Soorarai Pottru remake, Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sky Force and Welcome to the Jungle, remains to be seen. Mission Raniganj, helmed by Tinu Suresh Desai, is based on a true incident which happened at West Bengal's coal minery, where 65 mine workers were rescued by Jaswant Singh Gill from a flooded mine. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, and Ravi Kishan, among others.
