Aamir Khan is one of the few Bollywood actors who is open to criticism and acknowledges his shortcomings when necessary. He accepted his subpar performance in Laal Singh Chaddha, and in a recent interaction, Aamir’s cousin and filmmaker Mansoor Khan revealed that the actor had also admitted to an underwhelming performance in his debut film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Mansoor, who directed the film, shared that Aamir believed his co-star Juhi Chawla outshined him in the movie.
In a conversation with ETimes, Mansoor recalled memories of Aamir as a ‘shy’ child who rarely spoke. He shared that as a kid, Aamir was very reserved, but since Mansoor left for abroad while Aamir stayed back in India, he didn’t witness Aamir’s transformation into a confident individual over time. Given Aamir’s reserved nature as a child, Mansoor initially had doubts about his acting career. “I had doubts about whether he could become an actor, especially in Indian cinema, where a certain degree of expressiveness is required,” he said. He also admitted that he ‘cringes’ at Aamir Khan’s performance in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
In an earlier interaction, Mansoor had stated that Juhi Chawla’s performance in the film was superior to Aamir’s. When asked about the same, he reaffirmed his stance, adding that Aamir himself agrees with this assessment. “Yes, that is true. He himself admits it. But he has come a long way since then,” he said.
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak marked Aamir’s debut in Bollywood. The film was a commercial success and won the National Award in the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category. On the professional front, after the debacle of Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir is now gearing up for the release of Sitaare Zameen Par.
