Mahira Khan reveals why she and Shah Rukh Khan did ‘nose-to-nose kissing’ in Raees: ‘I was scared shooting for Zaalima’
Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan shared the screen in Rahul Dholakia's 2017 film Raees. Mahira was not comfortable kissing Shah Rukh while filming the romantic song 'Zaalima'.

Pakistani actor Mahira Khan and Shah Rukh Khan made for an endearing on-screen couple when they appeared in the 2017 film Raees. Their on-screen chemistry made for a special mention in all the reviews of the film but little does anyone know that Mahira was scared to shoot for her romantic scenes with Bollywood’s ‘King of Romance’. So, she drew some boundaries during the filming of the song “Zaalima” and there was a “war of noses” in the song.
Mahira recently shared Shah Rukh used to tease her during the filming of Raees as she would stop him from doing certain things during their romantic scenes. In the latest episode of the podcast, ‘All About Movies With Anupama Chopra’, Mahira shared, “When we were shooting for Zaalima, they all used to make fun of me because I used to be scared, ‘ki kuch zyada na ho jaaye (we do not do anything objectionable). So, I used to be like, ‘you can’t kiss me here, you can’t do this’.”
The actor shared that Shah Rukh used to jokingly tease her often. “He used to be like, ‘Kya ho gaya hai’ (What has happened?) He, obviously, used to get a kick out of it as well. He used to tease me, ‘Oh pata hai next scene kaunsa hai’ (Do you know what the next scene is?)”
Because of her restrictions, the makers were confused about what Mahira and Shah Rukh should do on the hook of the song “Zaalima”. Eventually, everyone decided on going for “nose-to-nose kissing”.
Mahira shared, “We didn’t know what to do on the hook in the song ‘Zaalima’ so it became a joke that since nothing else can happen, let’s make the noses kiss. Let’s go for nose-to-nose kissing. The whole song if you look at it, he just does a little nose thing. He was just like, ‘Will this be okay? Is this okay for you?’ In my heart, I would be like, ‘What do you know?'”
Raees was Mahira Khan’s debut in the Hindi film industry. However, her Bollywood career couldn’t flourish as tensions intensified between India and Pakistan after the 2016 Uri attacks and artists of both countries were banned from working in the other country.
Mahira was last seen in The Legend of Maula Jatt, an adaptation of the 1979 classic Maula Jatt. It was a blockbuster hit and was the highest-grossing Pakistani film ever.
