Madhuri Dixit ‘destroyed’ her skin during outdoor shoots as there were no washrooms, warned Renuka Shahane: ‘Don’t stop drinking water’

Veteran actor Renuka Shahane recently recalled shooting outdoors for Hum Aapke Hain Koun with Madhuri Dixit. She revealed that Madhuri didn't drink water because there weren't any washrooms around.

Before the introduction of mobile vanity vans, celebrities used to manage basic necessities and even improvise changes areas on location during outdoor shoots. The same happened with Madhuri Dixit and Renuka Shahane whole shooting Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapko Hain Koun (1994). Most of the film’s outdoor scenes were shot in Ooty, including its popular song ‘Dhiktana’. Now, in a recent interview, Renuka revealed that Madhuri’s skin was destroyed because she would never drink water during outdoor schedules as there was a lack of washroom facility around.

During a chat with Zoom, she recalled Madhuri’s warning to drink water properly and said, “We went to shoot outdoors in Ooty for Dhik Taana song, had to do the cricket shot and everything. Madhuri helped me and gave so many suggestions. There were no washrooms during the outdoor shoot at all. She told me that she destroyed her skin by not drinking water, so that we don’t have to look for a washroom.”

The actor further added, “So, she warned me that don’t you dare not drink water, otherwise your skin will become like mine. Whenever we wanted to use the washroom, we used to take four hairdressers with us and gooutside if needed, but don’t stop drinking water. We can’t even think of something like this today, such facilities weren’t there during that time.”

Renuka also revisited the fun and laughter the entire cast shared on the sets of the film. “Reema ji and Anupam ji also come, the entire family comes together. At that time, there were no makeup vans or anything like that. When the next shot was getting prepared, we all used to sit together and play dumb charades,” she said.

Renuka continued, “Satish Shah ji was also there..we used to talk about so many incidents and stories. The whole atmosphere was so fun. Sooraj ji always used to say that a Marathi film can also be done on the side because there are so many Marathi artists here.”

Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapke Hain Koun! was a huge box office success and had great cultural impact on the audience. The romantic musical drama starred Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Mohnish Bahl, Anupam Kher, Renuka Shahane, Alok Nath, and many others.
