‘I still cry’: Madhu Chopra regrets sending daughter Priyanka Chopra to boarding school, calls actor a ‘fearless mom’
During a latest conversation, Madhu Chopra opened up about feeling guilty about one of the decisions that she made while raising Priyanka Chopra.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas is raising her daughter Malti Marie Jonas like a “superwoman”. The actor’s mother Madhu Chopra recently shared how Priyanka is raising her daughter into a strong individual and also revealed that after becoming a grandmother to Malti, she has forgotten her own children. During the conversation, she also opened up about feeling guilty about one of the decisions that she made while raising Priyanka.
In a recent interaction with India Today, Madhu said that Priyanka is “fearless” as a mother and “isn’t scared of anything.” She said, “She’s giving her baby a lot of freedom to be her own person.” The one parenting advice that Madhu gave to Priyanka is “not to ever skew the word no. Explain to her, she’ll understand. Don’t just say no. That’s the one advice I have shared with her.”
More than a mother, Madhu is enjoying the role of a grandmother and enjoys holding Malti in her arms. “I have actually forgotten that I have kids of my own.”
If given a chance to change a thing about how she raised Priyanka, Madhu Chopra won’t sent her to a boarding school. “I still cry when I think about it and I still feel guilty. My fault was that I sent her to a boarding school. Not the best decision of my life,” she said.
Earlier in an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhu had shared that she had put Priyanka in boarding school without the approval of her husband. “When she was seven, I put her in a boarding school without my husband’s approval, without my family’s approval. I didn’t counsel Priyanka either. Those four years were very tough.”
Priyanka had said that when she was sent to the boarding school, she felt “abandoned”. She told Elle, “What I remember vividly is the feeling of being abandoned — a feeling that lasted for a long time. I didn’t understand why I had been sent away… I also didn’t understand why (my mother) couldn’t visit as often anymore.”
