Katrina Kaif has established herself as a great dancer in the movies but in the early days, she really struggled with the art form. In a recent interview, choreographer Terence Lewis recalled the time when he met Katrina after her debut film Boom and did not find her to be a great dancer but when saw her in the Race song “Zara Zara Touch Me”, he was shocked. He also added that Katrina worked on her body and dancing skills excessively to deliver some of the best songs of her career.

“After Boom, I did a show with her. She didn’t have that figure. And she couldn’t dance the way… When she did ‘Zara Zara Touch Me’, I called up Bosco (Martis, choreographer) and said, ‘Is this the same girl, with that figure?’ One of the most hardworking actors, Katrina Kaif. Because she was not a dancer. She wasn’t trained as a dancer. And she was very tall and statuesque, a big built. How she’s worked on her body! How she’s worked on her dance! Commendable,” said Terence.

In the interview with Pinkvilla, Terence recalled how he had a very different experience when he worked with her after Boom. “I remember her coming to my studio way back when Boom had just released. She was doing a diamond jewellery show. We were trying to teach her. She was also very young, fresh to India, very like ‘What am I supposed to do?’ And it wasn’t very Bollywood, we kept it more Western, but still, she was struggling with the dance steps. Rhythm was not there,” said Terence.

In an earlier interview with Bollywood Bubble, Katrina recalled her initial struggles with dance and said, “I could not dance. It’s not that they said that about me. No, I couldn’t dance. That was a fact. They were just stating the very obvious fact that was in front of them. I’ve said it many times before.”

She credited Bosco with her success with dance and said, “Bosco was the first person to… I don’t why or what he saw. Bosco was the first person to explain to me or talk to me. Because I was convinced that I was not a good dancer and I was never going to be a good dancer and I couldn’t dance and that was coming across. Bosco told me that you are a good dancer. You have it in you but you have things to work on.”

Katrina is now known for her dance songs like “Sheila Ki Jawani”, “Chikni Chameli”, “Kamli”, “Kaala Chashma” among others.
