What are the odds of seeing Shah Rukh Khan on Koffee with Karan anytime soon? Filmmaker Karan Johar on Monday opened up about the possibility of the superstar appearing on the latest season of his celebrity talk show.

Koffee with Karan Season 8 began with Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. While the season is already a few episodes down, fans have been wanting for Shah Rukh, a Koffee veteran and favorite, to make an appearance.

Post-pandemic, Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t made an appearance on Koffee with Karan—and has, in general, avoided any media interactions. During a special media event, when told that fans of the superstar have been missing him on the show, Karan Johar said the actor deserves his silence.

“I just know that if there is any megastar who has earned his right to speak when he needs to, it is Shah Rukh Khan. I, of all the people, have been his closest friend and family and should understand that. I have that leverage because he is family to me. I can ask him and request him. He has never said no to me. So I never asked.

“Because I know he didn’t want to be in that situation where he has to say no to me. I pick and choose what I ask for. He is somebody who matters the world to me. He is family to me. He is my older brother, he is everything. I know when the time is right, I will ask him. And I know when he wants to speak, he will,” he said.

Karan Johar said when Shah Rukh Khan does agree to talk, it’ll be “extraordinary” because no one gives interviews better than the Bollywood superstar. “Nobody speaks better than him. When he speaks on a global platform or a national platform, he is just the wizard of words. He is truly the emperor not just on screen but off screen. There’s a lot of collective love for him because of the man he has been to us off screen.”

The filmmaker, who hosts the Disney Plus Hotstar show, said he doesn’t “miss” Shah Rukh that way as he keeps interacting with the actor and his family on a daily basis. “I don’t miss him that way, because I have Koffee with Karan with him every night. Almost every evening, Shah Rukh, Gauri, his family and I meet. I’m having those conversations. I understand why you might miss him, but I’m satiated because he’s a big, huge part of my existence.”
