Karan Johar on his possible collaboration with Kartik Aaryan, Dostana 2’s future: ‘Defining for both of us’

Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan were all set to collaborate on Dostana 2 but things went awry between the two and the project fell apart. It was speculated that the filmmaker and actor were not seeing eye to eye after the supposed spat. However, in last few months, the duo has been photographed together and it seems like they have patched up. While Dostana 2 fell apart, Karan was recently asked if he was collaborating with Kartik on an upcoming project.

In a chat with fans on Pinkvilla, Karan said that Dostana 2 fell apart for “various reasons” and said, “Kartik and I, we nearly made a film and then for various reasons it couldn’t happen but you never say never. I’m sure the future holds something very strong for both Kartik and I.” When asked if there was a possibility for them to revive Dostana 2, Karan shared, “We don’t know about Dostana but may be we will make some film and that film will hopefully be defining for both of us.”

While Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan are yet to announce their next film together, Karan sounded hopeful and concluded, “I just hope that we can collaborate very soon and on a film that we’re both equally excited about.” In September, Kartik was spotted leaving Karan’s residence and it ignited rumours of a possible collaboration.

In 2021, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor walked out of Dostana 2 because of “creative differences”. The film also starred Janhvi Kapoor and Laksh Lalwani, and was to be directed by Collin D’Cunha. Kartik had already started shooting for the film in 2019, but the shoot was halted in 2020 due to Covid-19.

During an appearance on Aap Ki Adalat, when Kartik Aaryan was asked about his feud with Karan Johar, the actor said, “I have not spoken about this yet. I believe and it’s my etiquette that whenever there is a rift between an elder person and a younger person, the younger one is not supposed to say anything.”
