(Pic: IIFA/X)After taking a dig at Karan Johar’s flop films like Kalank, Kartik Aaryan has once again taken a playful jab at the filmmaker-producer—this time over the recent sale of 50 percent of Dharma Productions’ stakes to Serum Institute’s CEO, Adar Poonawalla. A newly surfaced video from the recently held IIFA 2025 awards is going viral, showing Kartik questioning Karan about the deal.
In the clip, Kartik expresses his desire to become a partner with Karan. Being a sport, Karan playfully responds, “Kya banoge Kartik? Kapde wala, joote wala, cosmetic wala, property wala?” (What will you be? A clothes person, a cobbler, a person handling cosmetics, or property?). Kartik, quick on his feet, quips, “Poonawalla? Woh nahi bola aapne.” (You didn’t say Poonawalla?).
Karan promptly replies, “Suno, unka adar se naam lo. 50 per cent stake hai unka.” (Take his name with respect. He has a 50 percent stake). Not missing a beat, Kartik responds, “Maine 51 per cent suna tha.” (I heard it was 51 percent).

Earlier, during an interaction at the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit last year, Karan had spoken about the decision to sell stake in Dharma, “I feel this is a great marriage of two minds. It was an easy decision for us, and we truly believe this is the best partnership for the growth we envision,” he had said, admitting that he needed a partner with a fresh perspective to contribute to the company’s expansion.
Adar, on the other hand, acknowledged that while the entertainment industry is a risky business, he saw great potential in Dharma as an established brand. “It’s not such a bad business opportunity… with the verticals like music distribution and content creation, these are areas that will thrive in the next 5-7 years,” he had said.
