Kapil Sharma has been living the celebrity lifestyle for a few years now but the actor-host had a modest upbringing in Amritsar where he would often find odd jobs to earn some pocket money. In a recent chat, Kapil revealed that his first salary was for Rs 500 working at a STD/PCO booth.

In conversation with Curly Tales, Kapil revealed that he was quite young when he started working at a phone booth and made Rs 500 per month. He shared that he wasn’t working full time at the time, and would only work for a few hours. “I used to work for lesser hours then. From 10 pm to 1 am, and then in the morning from 4 am to 7 am,” he said.

Kapil then spoke about another job, working at a mill, where he made Rs 900 per month at the age of 14. He recalled, “I have done a lot of odd little jobs. Like after I gave my 10th standard exams, I used to work at a garment mill. It used to be so hot that even the migrant labourers used to run back to their villages.”

When asked if Kapil had to work to make money for his family, the Zwigato actor said, “We were just kids 14 years old, and we thought we will get Rs 900 per month. This was back in 1994. There was no pressure from home that you have to work but we would just buy our own thing with the money. A music system, get a gift for mom, it used to feel nice.”

Kapil said that he “used to feel shy asking for money at home” and that is why he started working at a young age.
