Kangana Ranaut reveals Tiku Weds Sheru was to be made with Irrfan Khan: ‘The film was launched and then it never took off’

The actor-filmmaker then shared that she decided to pitch the film to Amazon Prime Video “just for fun”. The team ended up liking the script and the movie went on floors with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur.

Talking about how she approached Nawazuddin for Tiku Weds Sheru, Kangana Ranaut shared that she went all the way to Bangalore from Mumbai to meet the actor and narrated the script to him during the Covid-19 pandemic. She said, “I was searching for Nawaz sir’s number but people had warned me that he would not sign your film, that he would not sign anything for the next five years. I wondered what type of a condition is this. If he likes it, he should sign it. But I was told that he would not even talk to anyone. Then I finally found his number and messaged him that I wanted to meet him. He told me that he was in Bangalore. So I went to Bangalore to meet him. When I went there, he was surprised to see me and said, ‘Oh, you came,’ and I said, ‘Yes, I am here and I have a script for you.’ He was like, ‘Now that you have come all the way, I’ll do the film without reading the script.’ I think all creative people have a little bit of crazy in them. He saw that in me and must have thought that I am only a bit crazy but she is full mad and decided to do the film with me.”

Sharing why he decided to be a part of Kangana’s production venture, Nawazuddin said, “I know her taste and temperament and the kind of films she does, the thought she puts in her films. As an actor, I really respect her. So, I knew that whatever the project, it’ll be good. When I heard the story, it was very interesting so I didn’t have to look back.”

Tiku Weds Sheru will stream on Amazon Prime Video from June 23, 2023.
