Jolly LLB 3 advance booking: With less than 48 hours remaining for the worldwide release of director Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 3, starring Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi in the lead roles, advance bookings have now begun. However, it seems that the excitement surrounding the legal comedy drama is limited to its makers, as the film is struggling to generate significant buzz among audiences. Despite the passage of over a day since the ticket sales opened, Jolly LLB 3 still hasn’t been able to cross even the Rs 1.5 crore mark, leading one to wonder if the movie will achieve even a decent opening.
As of 7 pm on Wednesday, the Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi-starrer’s advance booking gross stands at Rs 1.26 crore, and Rs 3.02 crore if we consider block seats as well. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film has managed to sell only 46,438 tickets so far across 5,145 shows. A lion’s share of its bookings has come from urban centres, particularly the National Capital Region (NCR) and Mumbai, from where it has garnered Rs 42.49 lakh and Rs 13.1 lakh, respectively.
Although the first two instalments in the franchise were successful, the ongoing dry spell in the industry — with blockbusters like Saiyaara being far and few between — and Akshay Kumar’s shoddy performance over the past few years are likely to have started affecting Jolly LLB 3’s prospects already. Unless it earns rave reviews after the initial shows, it seems unlikely the movie will stand a chance, particularly since audiences have long lost their trust in Akshay.
While Jolly LLB 2 served as a spiritual sequel to the first instalment — with some characters being reprised — the latest movie will feature both the actors who headlined the two films separately joining forces. Thus, this crossover will mark a “Clash of the Jollys” of sorts. Jolly LLB 3 is set to hit the screens on September 19.
Mounted on a reported budget of Rs 15 crore, with Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani, Amrita Rao and Saurabh Shukla in the lead roles, Jolly LLB had grossed a stunning Rs 46 crore worldwide upon its release in 2013. It earned Rs 43.75 crore from India alone and recorded a footfall of about 35 lakh.
A far bigger film with Akshay at the centre, Jolly LLB 2 (2017) was produced at a budget of Rs 45 crore and ended up grossing Rs 197 crore worldwide, of which Rs 162.50 crore came from India, with its footfalls skyrocketing to 1.20 crore. While Saurabh Shukla and a few others reprised their respective roles from the first movie, it also featured Annu Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in key parts.
