Jigra box office collection day 5: Alia Bhatt-starrer is trending lower than decade-old Highway, still hasn’t hit Rs 20 crore

Jigra box office collection day 5: Mixed word of mouth is coming into play as the Alia Bhatt-starrer falls short of her 2014 film, Highway.

Jigra box office collection day 5: On its first Tuesday of release, the Alia Bhatt-fronted Jigra saved itself from a bigger drop in collections after an alarming Monday performance. Co-produced by Karan Johar and directed by Vasan Bala, the film earned Rs 1.6 crore on day five of release, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This is in the same range as its collections on Monday.

With a drop of just three percent from Monday collections, Jigra appears to have stabilised at the box office, ensuring that it doesn’t spiral and slip below the 1 cr mark just yet. The film would now hope to continue at the current pace and head into its second weekend with a spring in its step. Either way, this is going to be a major misfire in the long run.

The total collections of Jigra so far stand at Rs 19.85 cr, which includes Telugu version as well. Despite being promoted by some of the biggest names of the Telugu industry and including a Telugu song as well, Jigra has been an absolute no-show in the region.

For context, Jigra opened at Rs 4.55 cr, which was just slightly better than Alia’s 2014 film Highway, which was at Rs 3.4 cr. But, after five days, Highway showed a relatively good upward trend at the box office, netting Rs 18.24 cr. On its fifth day, for example, the Imtiaz Ali directorial earned Rs 2 cr, which is higher than Jigra’s day five number a decade later.

Despite mixed audience word of mouth, Jigra will now hope to benefit from a free run at the box office, as there are no big releases lined up for the entire month. The other film which released alongside it was the Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri-led raunchy comedy Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which is also not performing well at the box office.

Both films have 15 days ahead of them to add to their lifetime collections before the big Diwali relases–Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3–hit the big screens.
