Jawan director Atlee shares glimpses from ASTRA Awards in US, thanks Shah Rukh Khan for first recognition in Hollywood

Atlee has shared glimpses of the ASTRA Awards ceremony which took place last month. The filmmaker's Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone, was nominated in the Best International Feature Film category.

Jawan director Atlee attended the ASTRA Awards in the US in January, and recently took to his social media platforms to share glimpses from the awards presentation. In his note, Atlee thanked Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan for trusting him with the film, which emerged as the star’s biggest-ever blockbuster.

The awards night took place on January 6, 2024, at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. However, Atlee shared a throwback video of himself and his wife Priya at the event on Monday. The filmmaker wrote, “Thank you Astra awards @hollywoodcreativealliance #jawan ❤️ Thank you @iamsrk sir @gaurikhan Mam @redchilliesent, my team, @priyaatlee.”

In the video, we see Atlee and his wife posing for the shutterbugs against the the ARTRA Awards backdrop, and interacting with the media on the red carpet. Atlee is seen wearing a sharp tuxedo, while Priya chose a chic white ensemble.

Jawan, starring Shah Rukh Khan along with Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone, was released September 23. It went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, and the only Indian film to get a nomination in the Best International Feature category at the ASTRA Awards, which is presented by Hollywood Creative Alliance. Director Justine Triet’s French legal drama-thriller Anatomy of a Fall won the award. Other films nominated in the category were South Korean film Concrete Utopia, Finnish film Fallen Leaves, Japanese film Perfect Days and Mexican film Radical.

On the work front, Atlee is now backing Kalees’ directorial Baby John. starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi.
