As per the production company, Red Chillies Entertainment, Jawan has earned Rs 797.5 crore worldwide and considering the pace at which the numbers are growing, it is expected to enter the Rs 1000 crore club in the coming week.
If Jawan reaches the Rs 500 crore mark, it would be the third film to achieve that feat this year, a never-seen-before phenomenon in the Hindi film industry. It started with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs 543.05 crore) and continued with Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 (Rs 517.28 crore). Besides these three, none of the Hindi films even crossed the Rs 400 crore mark. For the longest time, the highest-earning Bollywood film was Dangal which had earned Rs 387.38 crore.
Recently, at Jawan’s success meet, Atlee talked about the film’s budget. He shared, “I narrated the film on a Zoom call during COVID times. I know theatrical footfall was going down and people were not ready to greenlight even a Rs 30-40 crore film. I know because I am also a producer. But sir (Shah Rukh Khan) greenlighted a Rs 300 crore film when everyone was skeptical.” He said with a laugh, “But we didn’t finish at Rs 300 crore. We went more.”
