Irrfan Khan asked me to take him to India-Pak border, wanted to fly a kite there, recalls Shashank Arora: ‘The terrified producer said…’
Shashank Arora shared how Irrfan Khan, despite being very ill and in pain, was full of life. The actor wanted to fly a kite at India-Pak border, leaving their film's producer terrified.

Shashank Arora met the legendary Irrfan Khan on the sets of the 2017 film The Song of Scorpions. The Swiss-French-Singaporean Rajasthani language drama film was mostly shot in Jaisalmer. This was also the time when the actor was not keeping well. However, he didn’t give up on living his life on his own terms.
In a recent interview with Lallantop, Shashank Arora, who played Muna in the film recalled his memories with the late actor. He said, “He was very sick when we met for the shoot of Song of Scorpions. He was in pain. I have a very vivid beautiful yet dangerous memory.” He explained, “We were shooting in a desert. We were shooting near India-Pakistan border. It was very cold at night. Irrfan sir was wearing a kurta and pajama. He was an amazing person but in pain, sometimes when I think of that memory I feel proud that I got to work with him, but sometimes when I think of it I feel terrible remembering his situation.”
Recalling more of his memories with the actor from the sets of The Song of Scorpions, Shashank shared, “One day he told me, ‘Let’s take the bike, let’s ride till the border and then we will fly a kite.’ I was like ‘where but’, he was like, ‘I just want to fly a kite near the border, and see who shoots it first.’ The producer got terrified. He was like, ‘Please don’t do this.'” The film was produced under the banners, Feather Light Films and KNM.
Speaking about Irrfan Khan as a person and actor, Shashank said, “He was very interesting and rooted guy. He didn’t care how he looked, or if his hair was done. He is one of those actors who doesn’t care about his appearance at all. There are very rare actors like him.”
He shared a few more memories, but refused to reveal details. He said, “One day we made gulkand ka halwa. One day, we were riding a bike in the desert. He said, ‘Please ride carefully, if not I will break my bone.’ One evening, we were randomly speaking about cinema. I won’t tell you what we were doing. These are my little memories with him.”
Shashank Arora is known for his roles in Made in Heaven and Titli, among others. Irrfan Khan died on 28 April, 2020 due to cancer.
