When Karisma Kapoor opened up about her silver screen debut and family: ‘I don’t know why people think that women of the Kapoor family can’t work’
Before making her Bollywood debut in Prem Qaidi, Karisma Kapoor gave an interview in which she spoke about life as a Kapoor and her aspirations for the future.

Actor Karisma Kapoor made her debut in 1991 with Prem Qaidi. Belonging to the prominent Kapoor family, Karisma had a lot riding on her shoulders, but an old interview from before her debut reveals that even as a teenager, Karisma was fully aware of the pressure and ready to take on the film industry.
In one of the first interviews of her career, Karisma talked about the dynamics of the Kapoor family and how much of an impact her parents have on her life and career. She seemed quite determined to debunk people’s belief that women of the Kapoor family were not allowed to work and said, “I don’t know why everyone is under that illusion. It was their own choice. After all, my whole family is filled with actors, and my father and my uncle married heroines.” She added that not only are there no restrictions on women, but her father, Randhir Kapoor, actually pushed her to act. The Dil Toh Pagal Hai actor revealed that both her parents advise her on how to move forward, and she only does what is mutually decided by them.
“My father encourages me to act, and he always tells me, ‘Don’t let the Kapoor name down.’ He is the one who is very much behind me, and I take his advice. We all sit together and talk about work. I just want everyone to get this out of their mind,” added the actor.
In the interview, Karisma Kapoor also talked about her relationship with Raj Kapoor and how he was her biggest inspiration growing up. She said, “I will never let my grandfather down, because I know he is up there and he is guiding me and looking over me. Even when I was a kid, he knew I was going to be an actor and told me, ‘Lolo, I know you want to become an actor, but if you do become one, be the best or don’t do it at all.'”
