Hrithik Roshan breaks silence on War 2 failure, says he ignored a voice within: ‘This is too easy’

After weeks of silence, Hrithik Roshan opened up about War 2, calling his experience of playing Kabir 'relaxed' yet unsettling. The actor admitted that while everything seemed perfect on set, a part of him knew it was 'too easy.'

War 2, mounted on a massive Rs 400 crore budget, was one of the most ambitious films from Yash Raj Films. Initially announced with Siddharth Anand returning as director, the project later shifted to Ayan Mukerji, with producer Aditya Chopra himself providing the story. With such a combination and the phenomenal success of its 2019 prequel (War), expectations were sky-high. Yet despite the hype, something felt amiss. Audiences didn’t connect, and the film, starring Hrithik Roshan,  Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, ultimately tanked at the box office with a lifetime collection of Rs 364 crore, failing to recover its mammoth budget.

Hrithik Roshan, who rarely comments on his films’ performance, has now broken his silence weeks after the release. Sharing behind-the-scenes photos from the sets of War 2, he penned an emotional but somewhat cryptic note.

Hrithik began, “Playing Kabir was so much fun. So relaxed, knew him so well. It was going to be easy.”

He went on to explain: “Finally a movie I could do like so many others do—keep it simple, play the actor, do your job, and come home. And it was exactly that. I was taken care of so well by my director Ayan. It was such a pleasure to have his energy on set. Everything seemed so perfect. Like it’s meant to be. A sure shot. No worries, just needed to do my job right. Which of course I did.”

But his next lines revealed a sense of foreboding: “But something was lurking behind that presumptuous certainty. A voice I kept shutting out—‘This is too easy… I know this too well.’ Another voice said, ‘I deserve it. Every film doesn’t have to be torture, trauma, and an incessant search for the truth of the moment.’”

Hrithik Roshan’s words seemed to hint at a conflict between comfort and artistic challenge. Over the years, the actor has pushed himself through grueling transformations—whether it was the bruises and muscle tears of Vikram Vedha, the physical demands of Koi Mil Gaya, or the intense preparation for Super 30.

Hrithik’s honest confession won hearts online with many fans flooding the comments section of the post with motivational comments. A user said: “Movie flop ho gayi, but mere liye to hit hai, Duggu sir (It might be a flop, but for me it is a hit.)” Others called him a legend.
