Housefull 5 director offers conditional support to Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour shift demand: ‘Even I want to spend time with my dog’
Deepika Padukone recently exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga's upcoming project Spirit, over disagreements regarding shift timings and remuneration.

Housefull 5 has finally hit the theatres, and director Tarun Mansukhani will be hoping that it hits the ball out of the park in its box office debut. During a promotional event for the film, Tarun weighed in on Deepika Padukone’s reported exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film Spirit, after allegedly asking that her work hours be limited. He acknowledged both sides of the story, as he highlighted the efforts and logistical planning a shoot takes and how certain demands cannot be met. Deepika, who recently became a mother, reportedly asked for strict eight-hour work days, and a sum of money that was deemed unreasonable.
The director told India Today that actors need to keep the director informed of their plans, ideally before the project even goes on the floor. He said, “I want to go home and spend time with my dog, and I understand the feeling. But you have to put it in the contract so that everyone is prepared.” He added that once production starts, too many wheels are in motion, including the availability of actors, location permissions, time and money constraints.
He specifically addressed Deepika’s request and said, “No problem. Eight hours? I’ll need that many extra days, and then we’ll go ahead, but you need to tell me in advance. You can’t come to me at 11 am and tell me you need to leave at 5. There are other actors involved; the location for the day might not be available again or the budget might not allow it.” After Deepika’s exit, the makers quickly announced that Triptii Dimri will now be starring in the movie alongside Prabhas.
Apart from Tarun, many people from the industry have given their opinions regarding this situation, including Thug Life director Mani Ratnam, actors Kajol, Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan herself. Mani Ratnam expressed his appreciation for the actor and said, “I think it is a rightful demand. I’m glad she’s in a position to ask for it. I think as a filmmaker, you will take that into consideration when you cast.”

Housefull 5 features stars like Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, Chitrangada Singh, Fardeen Khan, Chuncky Panday, Johny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Dino Morea, and Ranjeet Bedi.
