Hema Malini says she would have been ‘a nobody’ if her marriage with Dharmendra was a ‘conventional one’

Actor Hema Malini recently celebrated 43 years of marriage with husband Dharmendra. On the occasion, she shared some photos of the couple and thanked them for their wishes. In a recent interview, she also spoke about her marriage and how it has not been a conventional one. She reasoned that if it wasn’t this way, she wouldn’t have been able to do anything, and would have been a ‘nobody’.

Speaking to Bombay Times about her marriage with the former superstar, Hema Malini said, “Love is such a thing – you get involved with somebody, you like somebody, and that continues. Being conventional is something which I guess was not meant for me, and that is why I am able to do all this. If my marriage had been a conventional one, I think I would have been a nobody. Today, I am doing all this – films, dance, going to places for talks, being in politics – itna sab kuch kaise hota if it was a conventional life (all of this would not have happened in a conventional life).”

For the unversed, Dharmendra tied the knot with Hema Malini while he was already married to Prakash Kaur. He has two sons (Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol) and two daughters with his first wife.

On her anniversary, the Sholay actor penned a sweet note writing, “I personally thank all those who have wished us on our wedding anniversary today. It has been a wonderful journey spanning 43 years of togetherness and with all your good wishes, will continue to be a smooth journey in tandem. Few photos over the years,” she wrote.”

While Hema Malini has stayed away from screens for a long time, Dharmendra will be seen in a pivotal role in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
