Gadar 2 song ‘Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava’: Sunny Deol gazes into Ameesha Patel’s purple eyes in old school romantic number

Gadar 2 song 'Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava' has Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel reliving their romance one more time. The film will be released in theatres on August 11, alongside Ranbir Kapoor's Animal and Akshay Kumar's OMG 2.

A day after Karan Johar transported audiences back to the 1980s with the first song from his upcoming film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, it’s Sunny Deol’s turn to take his fans back to his heyday as a movie star with the first track from the upcoming Gadar 2. Titled “Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava”, the song is a reimaginging of the original number from the first film, which was released in the year 2000.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha went on to become a blockbuster when it debuted alongside Lagaan. Gadar 2 will also face stiff competition at the box office when it debuts on August 11 alongside Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal, and Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2. The new song features Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel frolicking in a courtyard, as Sunny dusts off a stringed instrument ‘dilruba’, and gazes into Ameesha’s eyes, which happen to be purple. A little while later, they take the romance outdoors. The video, which is also interspersed with footage from the first film, ends with Sunny looking emotional near a grave.

In Gadar 2, Sunny reprises his role as Tara Singh, and Ameesha returns as Sakeena. “Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava” is performed by original singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, which should be enough to take fans back into the ’90s and early 2000s. It’s also a rare example of a Bollywood duet, at a time when duets have gone out of fashion. While the original song was composed by Uttam Singh, the new version has been re-arranged by Mithoon.

Fans seemed to like the new version. “Only 90’s kids can understand the feeling of seeing Sunny Paaji back in this role,” one person wrote in the comments section. “Full justice to the original composition..Mithoon has recreated this beautifully,” wrote another person. “So refreshing to hear Udit ji singing the song all over again!!” a third person commented.

Gadar 2 is directed by Anil Sharma, who also helmed the original. The film also features Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur and Luv Sinha.
