Esha Deol, daughter of Hema Malini and Dharmendra, announced her divorce from Bharat Takhtani in 2024 and now, in a recent interview, Esha has opened up about the challenges of single parenting, and how she is coping with co-parenting with Bharat. Esha shared that while single parenthood can be “overwhelming” at times, she has made sure that her daughters are always her priority. She said that the relationship between the parents can change but that change must not hamper the children.

She shared with The Quint that her daughters mean the world to her and said that the relationship between two individuals can end but “when kids are involved, it is important to let your ego aside and have the threshold. At the end of the day, we are parents to these beautiful kids. Let’s give them the best and that’s when I think, when you decide to do that, when you are like that, the other person… he or she has to melt, if it’s possible. And you change the roles. And you co-parent.”

Esha said that if “two individuals have decided something, let the children not suffer and let our ego aside and let’s try and work it out with these new roles that we have taken on into each other’s lives.” Esha insisted that the parents have to continue acting as a unit for the sake of the kids. “For your kids, you have to be a unit. That unit can’t break. Maybe the other unit has broken but for your kids, be that one unit. I feel it is very difficult for many but if you try, I think, keep trying. Don’t give up on that,” she said.

Esha was asked about taking a break from her career after embracing motherhood and the actor said that she did what “every girl wants to do.” “My break was purely to start a family and I embraced motherhood twice over so automatically as a woman, it’s my choice, I want to give my children that time and rightfully so,” she said and added, “I always wanted to do what every girl wants to do – marry, settle down, have children and I am still doing my bit wholeheartedly and for my two daughters, they enjoy the fact that their mom is an actor.”
