Dilip Joshi remembers when he shared a room with Salman Khan during HAHK shooting: ‘He never threw a tantrum’
Dlip Joshi remembered how Sooraj Barjatya made it easier for him to shoot for a TV show even when some of his scenes were pending on Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

Actor Dilip Joshi, before he became a household name with his role of Jethalal in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was known for his performance in Sooraj Barjatya’s film Hum Aapke Hain Koun. While working on the movie, the actor got to share the screen with Madhuri Dixit, of whom he was a huge fan and also shared a room with Salman Khan. He also got treated on the set of the film in a similar manner as any other actor in that film, be it Salman, Madhuri, Anupam Kher, Alok Nath or Reema Lagoo.
In one of his interviews with Rajshri Productions, Joshi narrated the first time when he got to see Madhuri in real life. It was during the shoot of Hum Aapke Hain Koun that both the actors were staying in the same hotel in Ooty. Joshi shared, “I am a huge fan of Madhuri Ji, I was quite excited to work with her. On the first day of the shoot, I got ready before the call time. It was a fan moment when I saw her stepping down the stairs in the cricket costume and she crossed me. It was a surreal feeling to see her live.”
Joshi was overjoyed by Sooraj Barjatya’s introduction of him as a ‘big artist of the Gujarati industry’ to Madhuri. The actor also remembered how the filmmaker made it easier for him to shoot for a TV show even when some final work was pending on Hum Aapke Hain Koun.

The TMKOC actor said he had to shoot for a show which required him to shoot one episode each day. “It was to be shot at Sahara Studio and I had told them that my four dates are already booked. So, they adjusted the shoot like that. But then there was a strike in the industry and everything went haywire. Finally, after adjusting the dates of Anupam Kher, Madhuri Dixit and everyone else, the shooting of Hum Aapke Hain Koun started again in Filmistaan, but I got stuck.”
But, Barjatya came to his aid. Joshi added, “So, I went to Sooraj ji and told him everything. It was so sweet of him to listen to me while shooting the film with such big artists. He asked his assistant to bring the script and my schedule. He saw it and asked me if I can give him my entire day and a few hours the next morning just for some close-up shots. He adjusted everything by going out of his way and without making any fuss. He has such a helpful nature.”
Joshi added that Sooraj Barjatya treated all his artists equally and he even got to share a room with Salman Khan during the film’s shoot in Filmistaan. “During the film’s schedule in Filmistaan, I shared a room with Salman Khan. He never objected to me being in his room. He was very cooperative and threw no tantrums. it was fun working with him,” said Joshi.
Hum Aapke Hain Koun which hit the theaters in 1994 became a hit and got cult status over the years.
