De De Pyaar De 2 box office collection day 3, worldwide total collection: Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and R Madhavan's film has beaten the opening weekend earnings of Son of Sardaar 2, but not of Shaitaan, Raid 2, or even the first part of its own franchise.

De De Pyaar De 2 box offce collection day 3: Anshul Sharma’s family dramedy De De Pyaar De 2 sees Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan lock horns again after Vikas Bahl’s hit Shaitaan from last year. The clash has turned out to be lucky for Devgn as it’s not only helped the sequel’s opening weekend surpass that of Devgn’s last release and another sequel, Vijay Kumar Arora’s comedy Son of Sardaar 2.

De De Pyaar De 2 opening weekend

On Sunday (day 3), De De Pyaar De 2 earned Rs 13.75 crore at the domestic box office, its highest single-day collection so far. It was, however, only a slight increase from its earnings on Saturday (day 2) at Rs 12.25 crore. That figure was a 40% jump from its opening day, single digit earnings of Rs 8.75 crore on Friday.

As per Sacnilk, De De Pyaar De 2 has secured an opening weekend of Rs 34.75 crore at the domestic box office. This figure is higher than that of Devgn’s last release, Son of Sardaar 2, which earned only Rs 24.75 crore during its opening weekend a couple of months ago. A sequel to Ashwini Dhir’s 2012 blockbuster, it went on to earn only Rs 46.82 crore at the domestic box office, impacted by the unexpected juggernaut that was Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara, which released a couple of weeks before Son of Sardaar 2.

Opening weekend lower than first part

Like Son of Sardaar 2, De De Pyaar De 2 is also trailing behind its first part. That film released in 2019 and was helmed by Akiv Ali, earned Rs 39 crore in its opening weekend, including Rs 1.30 crore from paid previews. It went on to earn Rs 104.13 crore at the domestic box office, surpassing the Rs 100 crore mark.

Whether its sequel would be able to hit even that milestone remains yet to be seen. Even if it does, it would remain only the second highest grossing film or sequel of Devgn this year. Raj Kumar Gupta’s crime thriller Raid 2 earned Rs 173.05 crore earlier this year, more than the lifetime domestic earnings of its first part, which released in 2018 and earned over Rs 103 crore.

Opening weekend lower than Shaitaan

The opening weekend collection of De De Pyaar De 2 in India is also considerably lower than Devgn and Madhavan’s last team-up. Shaitaan earned Rs 54 crore in the first three days. It went on to enjoy a lifetime domestic run of Rs 148 crore after 10 weeks. Given that new contenders like 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishk Mein, Gustaakh Ishq, and Dhurandhar are all set to release in the next three weeks, De De Pyaar De 2’s box office run is expected to be cut short.

While De De Pyaar De also starred Tabu, the sequel’s new cast members include Madhavan, Gautami Kapoor, and Meezan Jafri. Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Jaaved Jaaferi reprise their roles from the first part. The sequel is also co-produced by Luv Ranjan Films and Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series.
