Ranveer Singh on Bajirao Mastani protests: We are not making a documentary, it’s a piece of fiction

Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of Peshwa ruler Bajirao in Bajirao Mastani, finally spoke on the controversy surrounding Bajirao Mastani.

We are not making a documentary or a propaganda based film. Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who plays the role of titular role in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, finally spoke on the controversy surrounding his movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and the objections raised by the descendants of Bajirao and Mastani.

“We were very clear right from the very beginning what we were making. We are not making a documentary or a propaganda based film. This is a mainstream commercial film based on a book and Mr. Bhansali has been very open about it right from the beginning,” said Ranveer Singh reacting on the Bajirao Mastani controversies.

Ranveer Singh also clarified that a disclaimer will be put at the beginning of the film mentioning that movie is fictitious in nature. “One slate will appear in the beginning of the film which wil say all characters in the movie are fictitious and any resemblance to any person living or dead is purely coincidental. The film is a piece of mainstream entertainment inspired from a book,” averred Ranveer. (Will Bajirao be able to defeat King Khan SRK?)

To the descendants objecting to him playing Peshwa Bajirao, Ranveer Singh said: “Many people are jumping the gun before watching the film. If they have any objections they should raise it with the producers, writers and directors.”

The descendants of Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani have accused the makers of misrepresenting the historical characters.
