Arshad Warsi didn’t like Jolly LLB 2 script; asked director to take Akshay Kumar instead: ‘With me you will get 500 people, Akshay will bring 5000’

Arshad Warsi is known for speaking his mind, even if it means potentially upsetting fans of major movie stars. Recently, in an interview, Arshad revealed that he openly shared his thoughts on the Jolly LLB 2 script with director Subhash Kapoor, suggesting Akshay Kumar would be a better choice for the lead role. He explained that Khiladi Kumar has the star power to attract larger audiences to theatres. Arshad had starred in the original Jolly LLB, which received critical acclaim and has since achieved cult status.

Revealing that he wasn’t fond of the Jolly LLB 2 script, Arshad told Mashable India, “I didn’t like the script of the film, and this isn’t a case of sour grapes. I’m just being honest. I’m not a greedy guy—I don’t want to do every film that comes my way. It takes a lot to get me out of the house; I’m lazy as hell.”

Explaining how Akshay got involved, Arshad added, “I think Fox Star Studios (the production house behind Jolly LLB 2) wanted Akshay to do it and Akshay also wanted to do it. I wasn’t all happy with the script but I still would have done it because it was Subhash Kapoor’s directorial. Subhash is one of great friends and if he says that ‘this is the worst film,’ I will do it. I told Subhash to take Akshay and make the film because with me you will get the crowd of 500 people but with Akshay you will get 5000 people. As in you will be able to fulfil your dream, the way it is supposed to be done with Akshay but not with me. That’s how simple it is.”

The original Jolly LLB, starring Arshad and Boman Irani, was both a critical and box office success, earning just under Rs 50 crore against a budget of Rs 10 crore. Jolly LLB 2, with Akshay in the lead, also achieved box office success and garnered praise from critics. Now, Arshad and Akshay are set to team up for the third installment of the film, reuniting to continue the Jolly LLB franchise.
