Director Anil Sharma has been celebrating the success of Gadar 2 for almost two months now, but the film has seen a few controversies as well. Music composer Uttam Singh, who composed the songs for Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001, recently accused the makers of the sequel of not seeking his permission before using his music in the sequel. The songs - "Udd Jaa Kaale Kaava" and "Main Nikla Gaddi Leke" - were originally composed for the 2001 film. In a recent interview with Bollywood Thikana, Anil said that was not obligated to seek the veteran composer's permission for reusing the music. Anil said, "The music company that has the rights, we just have to get permission from them. But even then, I called him (Uttam Singh) here and showed him the songs much before the release. This was my kind gesture towards him." Anil insisted that many reprised versions of old songs can be heard in movies, and no one seeks any old music composer's permission for the same. "You hear reprised versions in so many movies. Does anyone get permission from the original music composers? So many old songs are reprised. Even in Gadar, I have taken a few old songs. Did we need to get permission? No," he said. Uttam Singh had previously told Bollywood Hungama, "If he (Anil) says that he made me hear the songs, then it’s wrong. No permission was taken from me. You take the song, do whatever you want. You say you (have) the rights? Agreed. But there is something called ethics as well. What is your identity? Gadar. So, Gadar is not just a film, right?" Anil said that he has now spoken to Uttam and hopes he "won't say anything now." "He said what he said in the heat of the moment. He later told me that he shouldn't have said anything. He said he was misquoted. He is a nice, kind man. He doesn't like to be in controversy," Anil said. Anil Sharma is known for making films like Apne, Veer, The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, among others.
