Amitabh Bachchan called Jimmy Shergill a ‘method actor’ when they first met for Mohabbatein: ‘I had a bandage on my hand like my character’

Jimmy Shergill recalled his first meeting with Amitabh Bachchan.

Jimmy Shergill, who will soon be seen in Neeraj Pandey’s Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, recalled his experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in his film Mohabbatein at SCREEN LIVE in Mumbai on Thursday evening. Jimmy had just appeared in Gulzar’s Maachis when he was signed for Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein and the actor shared that he was over the moon when he was selected.

When asked what he was thinking when he got a chance to share screen space with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, Jimmy said, “Kya kya nahi soch raha tha yeh sochiye! Soch raha tha kya karm kiye honge maine ki main yahan khada hun inn logo ke sath. Abhi yeh log mujhe bol dein ki pack up, I am okay. (What must I not be thinking, think about that! I was thinking that I must have done some really good deeds to share the screen with these people. Even if they fire me now, I am okay.)” He quickly added that his only regret from that time was not taking a picture with them.

Jimmy Shergill then recalled his first meeting with Amitabh Bachchan at late Yash Chopra’s house before the film’s shoot. Jimmy shared that there was a pooja ceremony at the producer’s house where he first met the megastar and was introduced to him by Mohabbatein’s director Aditya Chopra. Jimmy shared that a couple of days before the pooja, he had badly injured his hand so his hand was wrapped in a bandage. “When Adi introduced me to Mr Bachchan and said, ‘That’s Jimmy, he is playing Karan,’ Bachchan sir’s reply was ‘He is a method actor, taking his role too seriously I think’ because (in the film) he (Jimmy’s character) would cut his hand again and again to meet Preeti. He said that in a second,” he recalled.

The actor also recalled how Shah Rukh Khan was extremely “helpful” to him in those days. “That’s why I say, when I came to the industry Shah Rukh was my inspiration and to date, he is my inspiration,” he said. Alongside Jimmy, Mohabbatein also starred Uday Chopra, Shamita Shetty, Jugal Hansraj, Kim Sharma, Preeti Jhangiani, Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai.
