Alia Bhatt announced her next film Jigra on Tuesday. (Photo: Instagram/aliaabhatt) Actor Alia Bhatt, on Tuesday, announced her next film Jigra through social media. The film is directed by Vasan Bala of Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota fame. Interestingly, the movie is co-produced by the actor and filmmaker Karan Johar, who forays into action genre for the first time with Dharma Movies.
The motion poster of the film shows an animated Alia standing in the middle of a road, with her head hanging in dismay. As the rain falls on her, the voiceover in the background says, “Dekh, dekh mujhe. Meri rakhi pehenta hai na tu, tu meri protection mein hai. Tujhe main kuch nahi hone dungi, kabhi bhi.” (Look at me, you are wearing my rakhi, you are in my protection. I will not let anything happen to you, ever).
Alia wrote a long caption, sharing her excitement and nervousness as a second-time producer. She wrote, “Presenting #Jigra, directed by the extremely talented @vasanbala and produced by @dharmamovies & @eternalsunshineproduction. From debuting in a Dharma production to now producing a film with them, in many ways, it feels like coming full circle from where I started. Every day is a different day… exciting, challenging (and a little scary)… not just as an actor but also as a producer as we bring this film to life, and I CANNOT wait to share more as we move forward. JIGRA – in cinemas on 27th September 2024.”

The narration of the motion poster suggests that the story is about a brother and sister. The film is Alia’s second production after 2022 film Darlings. Karan, who last paired with Alia for his direction Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, also posted the motion poster and wrote in the caption, “The return of…my #Jigra, @aliaabhatt once again on this exceptional story helmed by @vasanbala. A story of unbreakable love & unshakable courage! JIGRA – in cinemas on 27th September 2024.”
This is the first time that Alia will be leading an action feature film in Bollywood. She was recently seen doing action in her Hollywood debut Heart of Stone, in which she played a negative role and co-starred Gal Gadot.
