Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Singh Is Bliing’, which hit the theatres on October 2, saw a fall in its day two collections, while Meghna Gulzar’s directorial ‘Talvar’ showed an upward trend in its collections on the second day of its release.

By managing to gross as much as Rs 20.67 cr on day one, ‘Singh Is Bliing’ has become the highest opener for Akshay Kumar. The movie also has become the second highest opener of the year. The list is led by Salman Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ with Rs 27.25 cr on day one.
‘Singh Is Bliing ‘ is, however, panned by critics for its slapstick humour. Shubhra Gupta, The Indian Express, writes, “‘Singh Is Bliing’ is a low rent comedy and doesn’t care who knows it. Everything about it stoops low: IQ, jokes, scenes. Of course, there is no story, only unconnected, jerky set-pieces. The only thing which saves it—a little — is that it wears its silliness proudly on its hero’s `pug’ ( turban), said hero smartly reworking his good-hearted simpleton who loves his mother and respects his father, and rescues his girl.”

Also starring Amy Jackson and Lara Dutta, ‘Singh Is Bliing’ is directed by Prabhudheva.
On the other hand, ‘Talvar’, based on the Aarushi Talwar Double Murder Case, is riding high courtesy a good word of mouth. The movie had opened with Rs 2.50 cr, but showed improvement on day two with Rs 2.75 cr.
Starring Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Neeraj Kabi, ‘Talvar’ has earned rave reviews with critics calling it a gripping, gritty drama. Shubhra Gupta writes, “There was no indication that Meghna Gulzar, who’s made a couple of terrible films before this, would come up with something that sears, that make us question our precepts about fealty and loyalty, about crime and punishment. Despite its flaws, ‘Talvar’, which rhymes so closely with ‘Talwar’, is a brave film that devastates.”
