Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan to star in Priyadarshan’s next Haiwaan; fans wonder about Hera Pheri 3’s fate
Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan will star in Priyadarshan's Haiwaan, which is rumoured to be a remake of his Malayalam film Oppam.

After much back and forth for many weeks, actor Paresh Rawal finally returned to the much hyped Hera Pheri 3, which stars Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty, and is to be directed by Priyadarshan. But, soon after Paresh announced his return to the popular comedy franchise, director Priyadarshan has announced another film with Akshay, titled Haiwaan.
Priyadarshan took to Instagram to share a picture of Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar at the Lord’s stadium in London, where the Indian cricket team was playing against England, and shared in the caption, “Haiwaan my next film with @akshaykumar and Saif Ali Khan at Lords.”
While one might expect that Haiwaan will get made after Hera Pheri 3, but given the ever-changing status of the film, the new announcement has surely thrown off the fans. One of the top comments on the post was about Hera Pheri 3 as a fan wrote, “Please make Hera Pheri 3 first, and you can do anything afterwards.” Another fan wrote, “Please bring back Hera Pheri.”

While Priyadarshan has not revealed details about his upcoming film, it was previously rumoured that he was planning a remake of the 2016 Malayalam film Oppam, starring Mohanlal. Akshay and Saif have not worked together since the 1990s. They famously worked together in films like Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Yeh Dillagi, Aarzo among others. They were also seen together in 2008’s Tashan. It is yet to be known if Hera Pheri 3 is still on track after Haiwaan’s announcement.
Hera Pheri 3 controversy
The controversy first began when Paresh Rawal announced his decision to exit Hera Pheri 3 via X as he wrote, “I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from ‘Hera Pheri 3’ was not due to creative differences. I reiterate that there are no creative disagreement with the filmmaker. I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr Priyadarshan.”
Akshay Kumar’s team sent a legal notice to Paresh and threatened him with consequences. At one point, Paresh even returned the Rs 11 lakh that he was initially paid for the project and announced his decision to cut ties. During the trailer launch of Housefull 5, Akshay said that the matter would be handled by court. Later, in a podcast with Himanshu Mehta, Paresh said that the matter was “resolved” and suggested that the film was back on track.
