‘Akshay Kumar fiercely competes for screen space but he’s a great friend; checked on my health daily after heart attack’: Shreyas Talpade

In a recent interaction, Shreyas Talpade disclosed how filmmakers Rohit Shetty and Ahmed Khan, along with actor Akshay Kumar, showed unwavering support after he suffered heart attack in 2023.

In 2023, at the age of 47, Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade suffered a heart attack. As news of his health crisis spread, many from the film industry extended their support to Shreyas’s family. In a recent interview, Shreyas disclosed that filmmakers Rohit Shetty and Ahmed Khan, along with actor Akshay Kumar, showed unwavering support during the tough time. They checked on his health daily and maintained regular communication with the actor’s wife Deepti Talpade.

Speaking about the same, Shreyas told Siddharth Kannan, “When I was going through all of this, Rohit would keep calling Deepti and would ask her about my health and if she needs anything. These are the things that makes a relationship, otherwise there is nothing. He was in touch with me every day. Him, Ahmed Khan and Akshay Kumar were regularly in touch with my wife, asking her if she needs anything. They would come and meet her and would keep calling her.”

Shreyas Talpade further elaborated on his equation with Akshay Kumar and how the actor is a great friend. He said, “These things are important. Akshay bhai is a fierce competitor when it comes to his screen space. He wants to be the best. Period. But off-screen, he is a great friend. He will do everything that it takes to make sure that you are okay.”

Shreyas was also asked if he faced discrimination on screen and if his scene was unfairly cut in any film. He said, “It depends on the director and how much control he has on the set. Even if we do some improvisation, we ask the director. After that we don’t get into the nitty-gritties about how it is being edited. Sometimes when my scene is cut I feel bad that I lost the scene but it is important for the scene to be cut in the interest of the film. For instance, in Golmaal Again, many people asked me if I am Rohit’s favourite because I am shown a lot in the trailer. So, it is not in your hand and it shouldn’t be. The director is the captain of the ship. I never felt that I was unfairly removed from a scene.”

Shreyas Talpade is currently busy with the promotions of his upcoming film Kartam Bhugtam. The psychological thriller film is written and directed by Soham P. Shah. It stars Shreyas and Vijay Raaz in the lead roles.
