Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her debut at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on Thursday. Aishwarya has been attending the prestigious film festival for years, and this year, she was accompanied by her daughter Aaradhya. In an interview on the sidelines of the festival, she was asked how she feels to bring her daughter to Cannes, a town that she first started visiting with her own mother back in the day.
Aishwarya told Film Companion that Aaradhya feels at home at the Cannes Film Festival, and knows her way around the place. Asked what Aaradhya’s takeaway from the whole experience of Cannes is, Aishwarya said, “Isn’t this a question that she should be answering? At some point in her life, I guess she will.”
She continued, “It’s really just about being together. It’s familiar to her. She knows everybody here. It’s really about reuniting with friends. It’s an experience that’s so familiar to her. She’s a lot like me in that sense, we’re people’s people. It begins with that. She loves the place, she loves the vibe. We haven’t ever discussed this, but I’m sure she gets the fact that this is really a film festival, it’s about the world of cinema.”
Aishwarya said that it’s ‘wonderful’ to see that Aaradhya has a ‘respect’ for the ‘amazing world of cinema’. “I’m sure it’s all getting soaked in,” she said. Aaradhya has been attending Cannes with her mother for several years now. Aishwarya’s red carpet appearances are eagerly awaited, but her look this year drew divided response.
Aaradhya was born in 2011, and she usually accompanies her mother on trips like this. She joined Aishwarya at the premiere of Ponniyin Selvan: II in Chennai recently, where she warmly greeted Aishwarya’s co-stars, Trisha, Vikram, and Jayam Ravi.
