What if not Delhi University? Check out other universities located in the city

The students should not feel low as there are other top ranking universities in Delhi that have also delivered great minds.

With Delhi University’s (DU) cut-offs going through the roof in recent years, students from the city and beyond are left clueless as where to study after 10+2.

Not everybody scores 90 per cent or more in their Class 12 examinations. In addition to this, one’s aptitude regarding the compulsory subjects such as maths, science, languages or commerce courses is not by any means a precursor to a candidate’s ability to study their choice of course in college.

Added to this is the fact is that there are scores of students competing for limited seats at DU.

There are many other reputed universities in the national capital which students can apply to, besides which there are umpteen numbers of professional courses students can take up at educational institutions.

If you want to study in a reputed central university, you can go for these institutes:

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU): This central university enjoys a global standing of being an exceptional educational institution. Located in the heart of south Delhi, it offers many undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral programs which are much sought after. It follows the entrance exam method for admission to its courses instead of through one’s percentage in class 12.

JNU offers a host of language-based graduation courses at the UG as well as PG level which are popular with students. Its arts and commerce courses are recognised world over. The USP of this place is that it offers an intellectually stimulating environment that no other university has been able to replace.

Jamia Millia Islamiya (JMI): ‘Jamia’, as it is popularly called, is also located in south Delhi. The varsity offers a host of arts, commerce and science courses at the UG and PG level, in addition to engineering, dentistry law, mass communication, media studies, Indian Ocean studies, Arabic studies, etc.

This versatile university boosts of an impressive faculty, well-connected placement cell and a beautiful campus, as well as many student exchange programs. It does not follow a cut-off system by inducts students through entrance examinations.

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU): Popularly known as IP University, it offers 22,000 seats in across a number of UG and PG courses. Its main campus is located in Dwarka, although it has various study centres and affiliated institutes across the city.

IP University offers a host of professional and technical courses which are very popular with students such as BBA, B.Ed, B.Tech, English Literature, among others.

Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD): Following a liberal approach to studies, this varsity does not burden its students with undue pressure regarding the end-of-semester exams. Rather, it conducts regular assessment tests which account for 60 per cent of the semester grade, while only 40 per cent is earmarked for the final examination, giving students a breather.

AUD’s primary campus is at Kashmere Gate in north Delhi and usually has a student strength of about 250 students in its UG first year batch. The university has opened another campus at Karampura for some of its UG courses.

Amity University: Besides Noida, the varsity has campuses in Gwalior, Lucknow, Manesar, Jaipur, Raipur and Mumbai. It offers a large number of courses and is equipped with brilliant infrastructure and experienced faculty.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU): Established in 1085, IGNOU began with offering just two courses. Today it has a student strength of about 2.7 million students.

The last date to apply at IGNOU is August 17, 2016. You can also apply with a late fee of Rs.300 by August 31, 2016. You can apply online to IGNOU here.

Manav Rachna University (MRU):The NAAC accredited ‘A’ grade university came into existence in 1965. The international varsity offers courses in the fields of Engineering & Technology, Health & Applied Sciences, Management, Computer Applications, Hotel Management, International Programmes, Commerce, Humanities, Media, Architecture and Design, among others.

Admissions for the academic session 2016-17 are still open at the MRU. Students can apply online through here.

Ansal University: This varsity is located in Gurgaon and offers courses in the fields of Architecture, Design, Management, Engineering, Law, Health Sciences, Tourism and Hotel Management, and Skill and Entreprenurial fields.

Sharda University: The Sharda University is a unit of the SGI Group. It offers a variety of courses across various fields. It is located in Greater Noida.

Apeejay Stya University: The varsity, located at Sohna Road, Gurgaon, offers UG, PG ad well as doctoral programmes across various fields.
